César Olhagaray

Leben und Arbeit/biography

César Olhagaray wurde 1951 als Sohn einer chilenischen Mutter und eines französischen Vaters in Santiaco de Chile geboren. Von 1968 bis 1973 studierte er an der Universidad Católica de Chile Architektur und von 1972 bis 1973 Ballet am Conservatorio de Santiago. 1974 kam er nach dem Militärputsch in die DDR. Bis 1980 studierte er Malerei bei Gerhard Kettner und Hernando Leon an der Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden. Seit 1985 war er in den Ausstellungen 100 Ausgewählte Grafiken der DDR vertreten. Von 1988 bis 1990 studierte er Kunstpädagogik an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. 1990 gestaltete er ein 16m langes Wandbild für die East-Side-Gallery an der Berliner Mauer. Er führte weitere Wandmalereien und Skulpturen im öffentlichen Raum aus und trat mit Aktionen und Performances auf. 1992 studierte er noch einmal Bildende Kunst an der Universität der Künste in Berlin und widmete sich anschließend auch der Kinder- und Jugendarbeit.

Weitere Wandbilder entstanden in Santiago, Antofagasta, Cerro Navia und Valparaiso, in Dresden, Potsdam und Berlin.

Als Weltkünstler pendelt er zwischen Deutschland und Chile.

Olhagaray was born in 1951 as son to a Chilean mother and a French father in Santiago de Chile. From 1968 to 1973 he studied architecture at Universidad Católica de Chile and ballet at the Conservatorio de Santiago from 1972 to 1973. After the military coup in 1974 he came to the GDR. Until 1980 he studied painting with Gerhard Kettner and Hernando Leon at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden. Since 1985 he was part of the 100 Ausgewählte Grafiken der DDR exhibitions. From 1988 to 1990 he studied art pedagogics at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 1990 he designed a 16m long mural painting for the East Side Gallery at the former Berlin Wall. He did further mural paintings and sculptures in the public area and appeared with actions and performances. In 1992 he once again studied Fine Arts at the University of Arts in Berlin and afterwards dedicated himself to work with kids and the youth.

He developed further mural paintings in Santiago, Antofagasta, Cerro Navia and Valparaiso, in Dresden, Potsdam and Berlin.

As world artist he commutes between Chile and Germany.

Darlene Altschul

Leben und Arbeit/biography

Darlene Altschul was born in 1949. She lives in Woodland Hills in Southern California and is also known as Tarzana Savannah, DKA Productions, and DKA POST. Sine the early 1980s she has been active in the Mail Art network. Blaster Al Ackerman introduced her to Kees Francke. She is an active letter writer and designer of Artistamps. She and her husband run a commerical printing business.

Darlene Altschul wurde 1949 geboren. Sie lebt in Woodland Hills in Southern California und ist auch als Tarzana Savannah, DKA Productions und DKA POST bekannt. Seit Anfang der 1980er Jahre ist sie im Mail Art-Netzwerk aktiv. Über Blaster Al Ackerman lernte sie Kees Francke kennen. Sie ist eine aktive Briefschreiberin und Designerin von Artistamps. Sie und ihr Mann betreiben eine Druckerei.

Mogens Otto Nielsen

Leben und Arbeit/biography

Mogens Otto Nielsen was born in Nykøbing, Denmark in 1945. The most active Danish mail artist lived in Hjallerup. Since 1974 he was active in the network. He became known for his large stamp sheets. From the material he received, he designed expansive environments. These opened up new contexts of meaning in artistic communication and they documented current events. He also arranged mail art events, such as the International Posthændelse/Internationale Postgeschehen at the Jungfrau Ane Theater in Aalborg in 1983, Thou Art in 1984 (together with Carsten Schmidt-Olsen) and Atmosphere in 1989 (with Henning Christiansen, among others). His credo was: Atmosphere Controlled.

He died in Ravnstrup on March 2, 2023.

Mogens Otto Nielsen wurde 1945 in Nykøbing in Dänemark geboren. Der aktivste dänische Mail Artist lebte in Hjallerup. Seit 1974 war er im Netzwerk aktiv. Er wurde durch seine großen Stempelblätter bekannt. Aus dem Material, das er erhielt, gestaltete er raumgreifende Environments. Diese erschlossen neue Bedeutungszusammenhänge künstlerischer Kommunikationen und sie dokumentierten das Zeitgeschehen. Er arrangierte auch Mail Art-Events, so 1983 das International Posthændelse/Internationale Postgeschehen im Jungfrau Ane Theater in Aalborg, 1984 Thou Art (zusammen mit Carsten Schmidt-Olsen) und 1989 Atmosphere (u.a. mit Henning Christiansen). Sein Credo lautete: Atmosphere Controlled.

Am 2. März 2023 starb er in Ravnstrup.
