Anlässlich der Ausstellung der Gerhard-Altenbourg-Preisträgerin Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt vom 26. September bis 14. November 2021 ruft das Lindenau-Museum Altenburg Künstlerinnen, Mail Art-Aktivistinnen sowie alle Interessierten dazu auf, sich an einer Mail Art-Aktion unter dem Stichwort “Freiheit!” zu beteiligen. Fühlen Sie sich eingeladen, eigene etwa postkartengroße Druckgrafiken, Zeichnungen, Collagen, Fotografien oder andere Kunstwerke einzusenden, gern auch in Weiter- oder Zusammenarbeit, und diese an folgende Adresse zu senden:

Under the keyword “Freedom!” the Lindenau-Museum Altenburg calls on artists, mail art activists as well as all interested to create small-format artworks and send them by mail to the museum. On occasion of the exhibition with the Berlin artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, who will be awarded with the Gerhard Altenbourg Prize, one of the most important prizes for visual arts in Germany, we would like to invite all art lovers to send in their postcard-seized prints, drawings, collages, photographs or other works of art.

The exhibition will take place from 26^th of September to 14^th of November 2021.

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt im Prinzenpalais des Residenzschlosses Altenburg

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt wird am 25. September 2021 um 15 Uhr mit dem Gerhard-Altenbourg-Preis des Lindenau-Museums Altenburg, dem bedeutendsten Kunstpreis Thüringens, ausgezeichnet.

Die Berliner Künstlerin begann in den 1970er-Jahren mit ihrer Schreibmaschine Zeichen und Buchstaben auf Papier zu Bildern zu verdichten. Diese Typewritings bilden den Kern ihres künstlerischen Werkes und werden heute international hoch geschätzt. Zunächst entstanden aus einzelnen Wörtern visuelle Gedichte, später schuf sie abstrakte Formen.

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt stellte nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer ihre künstlerische Arbeit ein. Seit 2012 erlebt die 1932 im sächsischen Wurzen geborene Künstlerin eine Wiederentdeckung. Wolf-Rehfeldt wird für ihr Lebenswerk mit dem Gerhard-Altenbourg-Preis 2021 ausgezeichnet. Die Ausstellung, zu der ein Katalog erscheint, dokumentiert mit den Typewritings, den Collagen, der Mail Art und den Gemälden das gesamte Spektrum ihres Schaffens. Sie läuft bis zum 14. November.

Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt reiht sich mit der Auszeichung in eine Liste von Künstlern wie Carlfriedrich Claus, Roman Opalka, Cy Twombly, Michael Morgner und herman de vries ein. Der Preis ist mit insgesamt 50.000 Euro dotiert, davon gehen 10.000 Euro als Preisgeld an die Künstlerin.

Endre Tót: Gladness and Rain

Printed Matter (New York City) is pleased to present Endre Tót: Gladness and Rain, a survey show on the work of Hungarian artist Endre Tót. Curated by Darling Green, the in-person and online exhibition puts on view over 100 items, including artists’ books, printed matter, performance works, and mail art correspondence, with an emphasis on Tót’s print output of the 1970s and 80s which defied the censorship of Soviet-controlled Hungary with humor and absurdity.

On view September 9–November 14, 2021, the exhibition will gather the most comprehensive collection of Tót’s work ever shown in the US, with material on loan from private and institutional collections in the US and Europe. The presentation is the first to take place at Printed Matter’s Chelsea location since the exhibition program was paused in early 2020 due to Covid-19.

The gallery is honored to present an exhibition dedicated to the remarkable works of Robert Rehfeldt, titled Denken Sie jetzt bitte nicht an mich (Please do not think of me now).

The exhibition brings to the public an overview of paintings from the last years of the German artist, whose premature death in 1993 culminated his artistic venture as a prolific painter and engaged pioneer of the Mail Art movement.

Realized in collaboration with his family (artists Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt and René Rehfeldt), the exhibition displays a series of paintings dating from the late eighties and early nineties, together with a selection of original etchings and materials related to his Mail Art activities. A critical text written by Constanze Fritzsch gives a historic introduction to this important and mainly overlooked artist from former East Germany.
