Ruud Janssen was born in Tilburg, The Netherlands on July 29, 1959. He studied physics and mathematics. He is an artist, teacher, writer and publisher. He has been active with Mail Art since 1980. He organizes several international Mail Art projects and publishes numerous articles, magazines (TAM-Bulletin, Statements, Secrets Thoughts on Mail Art, IUOMA-magazine), and booklets with his TAM-Publications and participates in international (Mail-) Art projects, collaborations and exhibitions. In 1983 he became the curator of the largest collection of rubber stamp prints that is of international fame. In 1988 he founded IUOMA (the International Union of Mail Artists).
In 1985 he started experimenting with electronic communication and publications and started a bulletin board service and became one of the pioneers in electronic communication inside the art-world. From 1994 to 2001 he conducted interviews with Fluxus Artists and Mail Artists where he used different forms of communication (mail, e-mail, fax, personal meetings, and the phone). He published the results in hand-made booklets and on the Internet.
In 1996 he started publishing his Anthology on the Internet, which is updated regularly and accessible at http://www.iuoma.org. From 2001 on he focussed more on painting with acrylics on paper, canvas, CD’s and envelopes. He is co-founder of the “Fluxus Heidelberg Center” and does performances with “Fluxus Heidelberg” (Litsa Spathi & Ruud Janssen).
Ruud Janssen wurde am 29. Juli 1959 in Tilburg, Niederlande, geboren. Er studierte Physik und Mathematik, ist Lehrer, Künstler, Autor und Herausgeber. In der Mail Art-Szene ist er seit 1980 aktiv. Er organisierte viele internationale Mail Art-Projekte, gab und gibt diverse Artikel und Magazine heraus (TAM-Bulletins, Statements, Geheime Gedanken zur Mail Art, das IUOMA-Magazin), außerdem Booklets zu seinen TAM-Publikationen.
1983 wurde er Kurator der größten Sammlung internationaler Gummistempel, die auch international großes Ansehen genießt.
1985 begann er, mit elektronischer Kommunikation zu experimentieren, und wurde damit einer der Pioniere der elektronischen Kommunikation in der Kunstszene. 1988 gründete IUOMA (International Union of Mail Artists). Von 1994 bis 2001 führte er Interviews mit Fluxus- und Mail Art-Künstlern, wobei er verschiedene Kommunikationswege nutzte (Post, Email, Fax, persönliche Treffen und Telefongespräche). Er veröffentlichte die Ergebnisse in handgemachten Booklets und im Internet. 1996 startete er seine Anthologie im Internet, die er regelmäßig erweitert. Sie ist unter http://www.iuoma.org zu erreichen. Seit 2001 konzentriert er sich mehr auf die Malerei mit Acrylfarben auf Papier, Leinwand, CDs und Umschlägen. Zusammen mit Litsa Spathi gründete er “Fluxus Heidelberg” und macht unter diesem Namen auch Performances.
