Leben und Arbeit/biography

Ko de Jonge was born in Middelburg, The Netherlands, in 1945. He lives and works in Vlissingen/Middelburg. From 1970 to 2006 he was teaching art in secondery education. He produces drawings, collages, objects and installations. Furthermore he is a designer and contributor of the literary periodical “Ballustrada”. He is the curator of the “wALLofsmALLart”.

Since the early seventies he has been working with Mail Art. He participated in many international projects and organized several projects himself. His most well known project is “ARTisSTARTplus”, that started in 1982 and is still going on. It’s a library of contemporary art and consists of artists’ books. All the books have the same size and title. The invited artists make the difference. There are more than 1200 of these books in the archives.

Ko de Jonge wurde 1945 in Middelburg in den Niederlanden geboren. Er lebt und arbeitet in Vlissingen/Middelburg. Von 1970–2006 unterrichtete er Kunst in der Sekundarstufe. Er produziert Zeichnungen, Collagen, Objekte und Installationen. Außerdem ist er Gestalter und Beiträger des literarischen Magazins “Ballustrada”. Er ist der Kurator der “wALLofsmALLart”.

Seit den frühen 70er Jahren macht er Mail Art. Er nahm an vielen internationalen Projekten teil und organisierte auch einige selbst. Sein bekanntestes Projekt ist “ARTisSTARTplus”, das er 1982 begann und bis heute weiterführt. Das ist eine Bibliothek zeitgenössischer Künstlerbücher. Alle Bücher haben dieselbe Größe und äußere Gestaltung. Den Unterschied machen die dazu eingeladenen Künstler aus. Im Archiv befinden sich bisher schon mehr als 1200 dieser Bücher.
